Time is the ultimate enemy in the heart of Senegal. Two Americans find themselves thrust into a living nightmare when they awaken in Dakar with explosive vests secured to their chests. With only ten hours before the bombs detonate, they are held hostage by a voice on a phone that demands a trail of carnage. As they sprint through the city to fulfill these lethal directives, every second lost brings them closer to death and the city closer to a total social uprising.
Zero (2025)
Genre: Action, Thriller
Release Date: 2025
Stars: Hus Miller, Cameron McHarg, Gary Dourdan, Roger Felmont Sallah, Moran Rosenblatt
@Shirin Karimi, I understand where you’re coming from, but I think the American characters were meant to be somewhat alien in the Senegalese context. It added to the sense of unease.
I can see why some people might say the plot is predictable but I think that’s what makes it so engaging. We’ve all seen the ‘escape the bomb’ tropes before, but Zero does something different with it.
The cinematography in this film is stunning, especially the way they capture the beauty of Dakar even amidst chaos. It adds to the sense of urgency and desperation.
The film’s setting in Senegal adds a different perspective to the time bomb genre. But can we talk more about the characters’ motivations? Were they really there to spy or is that a red herring?
The pacing of this movie is absolutely frenetic, which suits the topic perfectly. It’s like the clock is ticking and we’re racing with the characters to resolve the situation.

The score in this film was genius. It really elevated the tension in key scenes.
I had a hard time connecting with the American characters. Did anyone else feel like they were more caricatures than fully fleshed out people?

What I find fascinating about this film is the cultural aspect of Senegal. It’s more than just a time bomb flick, it’s a cultural critique of sorts.
